People on the Move: Insurance



JOHN DOYLE was named executive vice president of Chartis, and president and chief executive officer of Chartis U.S., with responsibility over the U.S. and Canadian commercial property/casualty business and the Private Client Group. With more than 23 years with the company, Doyle last served as president and CEO of the Property Casualty Group of AIU Holdings.

Chartis also announced that GEORGE STRATTS was named president and CEO of its Global Marine and Energy unit. He will also serve now as senior property executive for Chartis U.S. Stratts joined Lexington in 1999, where he last served as executive vice president for property.

SANJAY GODHWANI replaced Stratts as executive vice president of Lexington and senior executive for the Lexington Property Division. Having joined AIG in 1999, he last served as senior vice president of Lexington and Landmark Insurance Co.

ALAN FAIRHEAD, 50, was named as chief underwriting officer for Europe general insurance at Zurich Financial Services Group, effective Sept. 1. He currently is chief underwriting officer for global corporate.

The Zurich-based insurer also announced that JUAN BEER, 39, will replace Fairhead at the position of chief underwriting officer for global corporate, effective Sept. 1. Beer currently is CEO of Zurich global corporate Switzerland.

MARK W. HAUSHILL was announced as the new chief financial officer of specialty insurer American Safety Insurance Holdings Ltd., effective Sept. 8. Haushill last was CFO and treasurer at Argonaut Group and also has held positions at USAA, KPMG and Titan Holdings.

The new specialty casualty E&S insurer Naxos Avondale Specialty Casualty Inc., a joint venture between Delos Insurance and Avoca Insurance Holdings, named CHRIS MACIEJEWSKI as head of the new company. Maciejewski most recently served as president of Aspen Specialty Insurance Co.

Also joining the new management team is DAVID LEWIS as chief underwriting officer. With more than two decades of casualty excess and surplus underwriting experience, Lewis previously worked for Aspen Specialty and Hartford Specialty.

JILL ARNOLD was inducted as president of the New York City chapter of the National Association of Insurance Women, the trade group dedicated to the development of insurance leaders. Arnold is director of business development at AXA Art Insurance.

JEFFREY R. DEHN was named as president of Berkley North Pacific Group, a new operating unit of W.R. Berkley Corp. based in Seattle. Dehn comes to the commercial property/casualty insurer with more than three decades of experience, 25 years' worth in the Pacific Northwest region.

JOHN HENNESSY was appointed as CEO of the European operations of Chicago-based insurer CNA. He has been with the company since 1982 and last served as senior vice president of distribution management.
